Blizzard Warning in effect until 7 am EST Thursday...
The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a
Blizzard Warning... which is in effect until 7 am EST Thursday.
The Winter Storm Warning has been cancelled.
* Precipitation type... snow.
* Accumulations... 7 to 14 inches of snow.

* Timing... snow will continue through this morning. A prolonged
upslope snow event will begin this afternoon and continue
through tonight.
* Temperatures... lower and mid 20s.
* Winds... winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts around 45
mph. Blowing and drifting snow will reduce visibilities to one
quarter mile or less at times... producing blizzard conditions.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow are
expected or occurring. The combination of snow and strong winds
will make travel very hazardous.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.

Idiots?

So if they fail so completely at music, why on earth should anyone listen to them when it comes to politics or science? Luckily most people don't, which is why right thinking individuals need not feel concern over their dramatic cover this week. It has the big red word "idiots" on the cover, and announces that it is listing the most dangerous people to the planet. Of course the topic is global warming.
An idiot would be someone who takes political and science advice from a music magazine, in my opinion. The dramatic, attention getting cover looks like a desperate act to beg people to convert to their anti-capitalist environmentalism that functions more like a religion than a science. They know they have just about lost this war. Luckily, Rolling Stone only preaches to the choir. Not many folks pay attention to their views on these issues.
I do not want to leave out the fact that this issue happened to appear only a week after Miami saw its temperatures plummet to thirty degrees. Augusta, Georgia saw ten degrees and snow falling (to the utter delight of my brother.) Around here we still have a snow blanket that was a week old at Christmas. God always seems to have His own answer for global warming advocates when they appear to issue dramatic warnings. Most Al Gore speeches come with unseasonably cold temperatures regardless of the season. The Copenhagen conference nearly had people freeze to death waiting to get in. And now this. Not to mention the fact that the top global warming scientists and institutions have engaged in full scale fraud to undermine any opposing points of view.
We are probably close to seeing this movement shift gears. Soon they will urge us that we have to act to prevent an ice age, not a global rise in temperatures. It's happened before, that's what these same people were saying in the 1970s.
We have to ignore these fools and

Something Rotten in the State of Denmark

Horatio: He waxes desperate with imagination.
Marcellus: Let's follow 'tis not fit thus to obey him.
Horatio: Have after-To what issue will this come?
Marcellus: Something is rotten in the state of Denmark
Something indeed. The global warming community meets very soon in Copenhagen to direct the next round of sweeping proposals for change for the United States and other nations. Many hope that Obama will come and lead the fight at home and around the world against man made global warming. However, there is one catch . . . no scientific proof actually exists.
What, you say? Certainly all those scientists citing all those studies couldn't be mistaken, right? It appears that they were not only mistaken, but they were following a very real and dangerous agenda of using false science to mislead the world.
Scientists at the University of East Anglia disposed of raw data cited in their studies showing rapid warming in the last several decades. This formed the basis of most man made global warming assertions, especially their own. They claim that they still have data, only in a "quality controlled" and "homogenized" form. That is funny. When you homogenize milk, you heat it up. Does this mean that they cooked the books on data? Exactly.
Even worse is news from the academic field where most of these scientific battles are fought. We now know that global warming advocates fought to keep skeptical claims from being published in peer review journals. Professor Phil Jones, director of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, expressed fears about global warming skeptics using the raw data to undermine global warming theory. Now why would he be afraid if he was so sure? I imagine that is why he dumped the data. It would be the same as if a prosecutor before arguing a big case tossed out all the physical evidence and asked the jury to just trust his word.
One prominent expert even stated that, if necessary, that the rules of publication ought to be changed to prevent the skeptics from getting a fair shot at publication. Imagine if the Indianapolis Colts were about to play a football game and suddenly just before the game, the forward pass was outlawed.
How do we know this? Russian journalists hacked into computers at the University of East Anglia and found the smoking gun. Just as Richard Nixon did not erase or discard incriminating tapes proving his involvement in the Watergate coverup, it somehow did not occur to global warming luminaries to hide the shell game they have been playing with the world for many years now.
Will any American news sources follow the lead of Russia Today and the London Times to follow a story that completely undermines the certainty of stories they themselves wrote for many years assuming this fraud was true? I imagine it will take some time and pressure from Fox and the Wall Street Journal to get the rest of them in line. It may happen after the 2010 elections, if at all.
In the meantime the Environmental Protection Agency still acts on the premise that this fraud exists. GOP legislators need to go to Capitol Hill and to the people armed with this latest left wing anti-capitalist gaffe and stop cap and trade dead in its tracks.

Because We Are Not Like Them

The Left called it, predictably, a "lie." "Bush lied, thousands died" they chanted. The media took up the mantra, never considering that Hussein could have moved the weapons in the several month buildup to war. They never considered that the United States and other nations had the obligation to enforce previous United Nations decisions. It boiled down to "Bush lied."
Since the beginning of this century the Left has exchanged simple anti-capitalist rhetoric for the diversionary tactic of regulating capitalism out of any ability to compete or expand. They manufactured a crisis called "global warming" based upon computer models, incomplete observations, and correlation based studies. The facts have come in and they are simply wrong.
The liberal leaning BBC abruptly changed its editorial position, admitting that evidence points not towards global warming, but a gradual cooling. Global temperatures peaked in the late 1990s and followed a slow cooling trend that accelerated in the past two years. NASA noted earlier this year that Martian polar caps shrank at the same time as the northern ice cap on Earth. Solar energy expended more heat in that same period. Now solar energy has slightly declined at the same time as Earth has cooled.
It seems like common sense that the Earth might heat when the Sun gets warmer and cool when the Sun produces less energy. Scientists do not part with cherished beliefs easily. However, more are abandoning the man made global warming hypothesis than sticking to it these days. The media and politicians have not caught on yet. We must do our part to educate them and obstruct any attempt to regulate away capitalism in the name of bad science.
That all being said, we should not resort to their tactics. As someone put it, they are not evil, just wrong. They wanted something very badly to be true and a lot of jobs around the industrialized world were lost as a result. I would not call them liars, but if Congress and the president persist, they are certainly still very deluded.

Junk Science
In doing research recently, I came across a series of letters written to West Virginia Governor William Glasscock. They came from Major Leonard Darwin, famous scientist and son of evolution pioneer Charles. These letters invited Governor Glasscock to send a representative from West Virginia to the First International Eugenics Conference.
This conference sought to study the science behind racial degradation and propose legislative solutions to the problem that many of them believed threatened mankind. Was this a group of nutcases? No. The list of vice presidents of the society included Winston Churchill (soon to be head of the Royal Navy), Gifford Pinchot (chief conservation advisor for President Theodore Roosevelt), and many other esteemed names from both sides of the Atlantic.
What kind of legislative solutions could come of such a meeting? Eventually eugenics resulted in programs that sterilized the mentally challenged and even the chronically poor. The idea was that their inferior genes retarded the growth of mankind. Such ideals are not compatible with a democratic society because they undermine the concept that every one is free and equal under the law.
Of course we know that eugenics is junk science, a flawed field studied by well-meaning and intelligent people who observed natural phenomena and came to a horribly wrong conclusion. National Socialist Germany followed these ideas to their logical end.
In our time, junk science again rears its ugly head. This time the issue is what used to be called global warming. Now, after a bitterly cold winter, it has transformed to "climate change." Well-meaning, and some not so well-meaning, people have concluded that any shift in the earth's climate is A) artificial, and B) disastrous. Never mind that drastic shifts have occurred since the fall of Rome making the earth both much warmer and much colder than today. Surprisingly A) man survived and B) George W. Bush did not cause any of it.
Junk science threatens to destroy our prosperity and take away economic freedoms. If the United States follows the British model, electricity and other costs are expected to eventually skyrocket over 55%, leading to the loss of more manufacturing. Luckily, Senator Byrd stood up recently against legislation based upon unproven science that would destroy West Virginia's coal industry. How much damage will anti-capitalist left wingers do to individuals, business, and our country if junk science, just as in the days of eugenics, is allowed to prevail?

"I now know what -47 feels like"
I got this message from my cousin in Chicago this week. I wonder if Obama plans to give any major speeches on global warming in the Midwest anytime soon. If anyone anywhere still believes in that tripe, they may be tempted at this point to gas up the SUVs and drive around in circles. It was only fifteen years ago that temperatures dipped well below zero in West Virginia. I lived in Huntington at the time and remember my car freezing up for almost a week. Even if I could get out, my little rear wheel drive sports car would simply flail on the snow and ice covered roads until it got hung up somewhere.
If you listened to the global warming people at the height of their movement, this winter was not something we were ever supposed to see again. The uncommonly warm winters we saw there for a few years were supposed to be permanent. Interestingly enough, when the earth showed signs of cooling, some scientists rushed out to claim that colder temperatures resulted from global warming. That just does not meet the smell test.
Fact is that Arctic ice has extended back to the levels of the supercold late 1970s (when Newsweekinsisted that carbon emissions were causing an ice age.) Polar bear populations have grown in larger numbers than expected. All is right with the Great White North.
Global warming has been exposed for what it always has been, a front for neo-Marxists to curb capitalist development. Unfortunately the tide of Democratic success swept some of these people into the Congress and Executive Branch. The so-called climate czar supports taxing American prosperity heavily and redistributing it to Third World nations. This individual feels Americans live too well.
Now more than ever America needs the GOP to stay strong.

An Inconvenient Issue
The National Climatic Center recently reported that the year 2008 thus far has been the coolest in eleven years. Sea ice growth has increased at the most rapid level in decades. That information does not count the blast of early winter delivered to this part of the United States this month. But this doesn't make any sense. Global warming is supposed to destroy us all. What in the name of Al Gore is going on?
Global warming is dead as an American political issue. You heard it here first. Democrats lock stepped behind this issue that has been used around the world to break down capitalist economic systems. They saw it as a perfect way to discredit George W. Bush. Watch it now disappear.
For one thing, temperatures, especially in the eastern United States, have been noticeably cooler overall. Our long, hot summers have moderated except for a few bursts of heat. Winters have been moderate as well. Last spring we got a lot more precipitation than we had for many years. Of course the most looney have concocted the explanation that if temperatures rise OR fall, it is attributable to global warming. How convenient!
This issue has always been more political than anything, though. Do you really see Democrats from industrial and coal producing states actually supporting sweeping legislation to reduce our competitive advantage based upon an unproven theory? Now that Obama has revealed himself to be more of a savvy politician than a crusader, he will likely disappoint the radical Leftists that want to destroy capitalism and all its works. Now that the abominable Bush is gone, scientists will probably start voicing their skepticism's since they cannot be accused of being Bush lovers for having an opposing viewpoint. Radical Leftists who expected that global warming would roast capitalism will surely be disappointed.
The Farmer's Almanac has predicted a cooler winter this year as well as a long term cooling trend over the next few decades. They rely upon observations of sunspots for their predictions. This is science at work without the intrusive political tinge. Maybe they will actually start to admit that George W. Bush does not actually control the weather too, but that might be too much to hope for.
Or maybe now that Obama is almost president, he gets to run the weather machine for awhile.

Global Warming
In case anyone missed it, Yahoo! reported on the snowfall in Baghdad, that's right snow in Iraq. Now it doesn't appear that the snow stayed around for very long. I didn't see any snow men, and I doubt that the snow "stuck" as we would say, but quite the phenomenon. I bet President Bush is behind it. Remember he caused Katrina to hit New Orleans. This must be a parting gift to the people of Iraq.
I know that there is some global warming enthusiast answer for how global warming affects the seasons causing abnormal behavior in weather patterns, but snow in the desert? I am not a weather man, nor am I a weather enthusiast. I still walk outside in the morning to find out what the daily weather is going to be, so I will defer to more respectable meteorologists to explain this one to me.

Interesting Information on Climate Change (Possibly)
The technology blog "Daily Tech" recently published a story that could be a huge blow to the hopes and dreams of anti-capitalist environmental ideologists.
According to this website, which publishes a wide variety of technology oriented stories, NASA's climate change information was faulty. It previously showed that the year 1998 was the hottest on record. Global warming supporters rely on NASA's relatively short term statistics to bolster their theories on climate change. The Daily Tech asserts that a bug associated with Y2K skewed the temperature records. 1934 now stands as the hottest year, with five of the ten warmest occuring before World War II.
The author of the article claims that NASA "quietly" re-released their climate figures and that the mainstream media will likely ignore the story. If true, this removes another pillar from the argument that mankind needs to place more economic decisions in the hands of anti-capitalist scientists and bureaucrats to save itself.
Most other "evidence" comes from correlations and models that get tweaked by their creators more often than video games. Questioning such methods will lead to the truth of the matter whatever that may be. Journalists need to follow up on the Daily Tech's story to see if it has legs, then communicate the results to the mainstream media market. John Stossel? Are you out there?
Update: apparently someone did. Fox News covered the story in their science section on August 11th.

The Fine Art of Persuasion
Persuasion is less a science and more of an art form. However this art, like many, has maxims that hold truth. For instance, say you generate a message. This year it sounds preposterous, right on the edge of believability. However get some money, celebrities, and experts to sign on and you have a fringe movement. Repeat the message often enough and it creeps onto the edge of respectability. From there it becomes accepted. Left wingers specialize in manipulations like this and we have seen it. Mountaintop removal will destroy every mountain in West Virginia. Global warming exists and it will destroy mankind.

Why does the Left not advance arguments that they can more firmly ground in fact? For example, every global warming story relies on correlations. You can draw correlations between the drop in popularity of baseball and the dubious climate change numbers they offer. These messages rely on their very extremism, not facts. They assume that people may not swallow the whole idea at once, but act on the principle of "where there's smoke, there's fire."
The more extreme the message, the more you can shift people's attitudes in the long run, potentially anyway. We can argue that mountaintop removal mining has benefits and drawbacks and that coal companies ought to respect as much as possible the environment they affect. Also we can argue that reducing pollution through technology and other means is a commendable goal. However since those ideas are not that far from people's mainstream points of view, they do not cause major shifts in popular belief. It's easier for liberal leftists to say that all the mountains will be gone someday or that the world will end up uninhabitable. Some may balk at what I am saying, but think of the pro-abortion and animal rights movements over history. Look at how messages currently undermine the idea that a person has the right to eat what he or she wants and the responsibility to deal with the consequences.
What is the point in the Left's messages? It is anti-capitalism and anti-freedom plain and simple. Some of the messages show some coordination, others are merely inspired. An element in the United States wants to fundamentally change how people in general view economics and society. They want to move the country farther away from individual rights and responsibilities towards a collective mentality where government acts as parent. Or perhaps as Big Brother.
They cannot do it directly through revolution so they attack on the fringes using proxy issues. The base messages are always the same. Capitalism is evil. People are not smart enough to take care of themselves or their environment. Authority needs to do it for them. Perhaps if more people become aware of how the messages try to manipulate them, they will know to resist them. They are counting on you to not think about what they say, but to accept it even just partially. Don't do them the favor of unconditionally accepting it.
